There are dozens and dozens of scales scattered around Yerevan, nearly at every street corner, some like this but mostly regular bathroom scales. Beside each is an old woman who sits there in the sun all day long hoping someone will have a sudden urge to know their exact weight so that she can make a few Dram. (note: one canadian dollar is about 370 drams which can get you a sandwich and a fanta in some places or even a small armenian beer if you’re lucky)

Apparently this is not unique to the city. That sort of scale thing appeared on an episode of “The Amazing Race” while they were in another city. Unfortunately I can’t remember where, but somewhere like Hungary. Someone could open a franchise here in Montreal.

I definitely think the Amazing Race should hit up Yerevan. The challenges would go something like trying to find some vegetarian food, crossing the street at a green light without getting killed and avoiding the sketchy men trying to marry you. It would be awesome.
