"hollywood can suck it!"
That pretty much sums it all up for Liz and Scott from Evil Twin Booking and the Lost Film Fest, recently in town with their do-it-yourself-punk-scene take on film distribution as part of Pop Montreal.
This year their lineup is made up of all kinds of fun videos from things like ‘The Horribly Stupid Stunt Which Has Resulted In His Untimely Death’ and ‘Smokey the Log’ with the Yes Men, all the way to Richard Pell’s less silly documentary‘Don’t Call Me Crazy on the Fourth of July’, starring Robert Lansberry. Sometimes it’s a fine line between insanity and mind control, and it’s hard to remember which side you started on.

the line between sane and insane is pretty clear when it comes to mind control. hahaha.. anyway..
the way I see it, is that you can be insane and not think radio waves control your mind (it can be T.V, microwaves, Aliens, repulicans etc…) But to be quite honest, how sane can you be with people controlling your mind, you know? Its not easy sorting out what your thoughts are, what thoughts are theirs, and what thoughts they want you to think are yours, and which they want you to think are theirs. i have met people who became sane thanks to something controlling their mind (its usually an antipsychotic), but thats rare… drugs dont usually work, they sedate.. its sad….
anyway, I learned that illusions are a sign of a healthy mind last week so who really knows

When you are depressed, you don’t see the world as worse than it is, you see the world as it is, but depression is unhealthy.
People who are healthy and functional have the following illusions:
They think they control their lives
That they are better than most people
and that bad things are less likely to happen to them
All of which are wrong, but when we know that, we become dysfunctional. So if we don’t think we control our lives (like its radio waves of some sort) we freak out and don’t take any credit for our achievements, blame others for our problems and don’t do anything properly. When we know we are nothing but average and no better then the rest, our “self esteem” is shitty and we focus on our failures, and when we think bad things are going to happen to us, we ignore the beauty in our lives and become even more sad.
So when you think you are in control, and you are at your very best (even if we are still average)
When we think we are at our best, we don’t see where we suck too much and think we’re even better than we are
And when we don’t think bad things are gonna happen to us, it allows us to focus on all the good stuff that does happen to us.
Also, thinking they are more likely to recover from aids, or not get aids does not make Gay men Morelikely to engage in risky sexual behaviour. The more depressed and realistic you are about life, leads you to think that nothing matters ( which it doesn’t) and you do stupid stuff like unprotected sex.
THUS, some optimism and having a bunch of illusions leads to out of touch, yet mentally happy and well adjusted functional human beings. REALISM leads to depression and dysfunction.
