where will phoebe sleep now?

cinema du parc

Cinema du Parc is closing in three weeks! Apparently, the dollar cinema was more competition than they could handle. (Remember when it was 2,50$ for members and all they played was Atlantis and Throne of Blood and Harold & Maude?) In any case, they won’t be validating membership cards after August 3rd so we’d all better get cracking and check some of their final screenings out. They’ve got Michael Winterbottom’slatest “Road to Guantanamo” and Feuerzig’s psycho-doc “The Devil and Daniel Johnston”. Their last week of programming is kind of a “best of parc” which seems like it will be fun, too.

Do you really think it was the dollar cinema, not their recently shitty programming, that put them under? I am inexplicably partial to the sketchy dollar cinema owner’s charm (and one dollar popcorn) but it doesn’t make up for the better movies Cinema du Parc used to show. Also Namur is so far…

Well I’m commenting about 3 weeks late, hope you used your pass up.

I was kidding about the dollar cinema being responsible for their downfall. I think it’s more likely a combo of their new management/ lukewarm programming and the AMC getting wind that people actually want to see good movies and taking in a few independent films. But why someone would actually rather pay 10 bucks at the AMC to go see the same movie that’s playing *commercial free* at parc for $6 is beyond me.
